Our service in Harpenden
Harpenden is a commuter town with a strong pull for families. Harpenden Common covers 238 acres just south of the centre, and Rothamsted Research, the largest agricultural research centre in the UK, has its home on West Common. The schools are a big reason people move here: St George's on Sun Lane is a state school that also takes boarders, Aldwickbury on Wheathampstead Road is a prep school moving to co-education, and St Hilda's on Douglas Road is a prep school for girls.
Harpenden station on Station Road is on the Thameslink route, with direct trains to St Pancras and Gatwick and trains north to Luton Airport Parkway, where the DART carries passengers on to the terminal. By road the M1 is close, with junction 9 for Redbourn and junction 10 for Luton Airport. Luton is the nearest airport, and Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick are all reached on the M1 and M25. Batford, in the Lea valley to the north-east, has its own shops and park, and we collect there as readily as in the centre.
Golfers have two clubs to choose from: Harpenden Golf Club at Hammonds End on Redbourn Lane, founded in 1894, and Harpenden Common Golf Club on Cravells Road, formed in 1931 by members who chose to stay on the Common. Each July the Harpenden Highland Gathering fills Rothamsted Park, a tradition that goes back to 1946. We also drive Harpenden residents into London for dinners and the theatre, and the chauffeur waits to bring them home.

On the road
- The M1 has two junctions for Harpenden: junction 10 is the Luton Airport junction and junction 9 serves Redbourn, and we choose between them for each airport or London run.
- For Luton flights we drive to the terminal rather than Luton Airport Parkway, so there is no change onto the DART with your luggage.

The train goes to Luton Airport Parkway, then you change to the DART for the terminal. With luggage, children or an early flight, a car to the terminal avoids both changes.
