Our service in Chigwell
Chigwell is an old Essex parish that became a prosperous suburb, and it still feels like a village along the High Road. St Mary's Church dates from the twelfth century, and across the road stands the King's Head, the coaching inn Charles Dickens turned into the Maypole in Barnaby Rudge. Chigwell School, founded by Archbishop Samuel Harsnett in 1629, teaches pupils from 4 to 18 on its grounds between the two forests. The A113 High Road runs through the town and on towards Abridge, while Chigwell Lane, the A1168, leads up to Loughton and junction 5 of the M11. That junction only connects in the London direction, so for Stansted we join the M11 at Woodford or head out by the M25. The Central line serves Chigwell and Grange Hill on the Hainault loop, with a few trains an hour off-peak. London City and Stansted are the nearest airports, and Heathrow is reached round the M25.
Golf and celebrations fill much of the local calendar. Chigwell Golf Club has played beside the High Road since the 1920s, and Woolston Manor on Abridge Road pairs its own course with a suite licensed for weddings. The Prince Regent, a listed Georgian mansion on Manor Road towards Woodford Bridge, holds large weddings and banquets. - Junction 5 of the M11 at Loughton only works in the London direction, letting northbound traffic off and southbound traffic on, so Stansted runs from Chigwell join the motorway elsewhere.
- Essex Highways has assessed the A1168 Chigwell Lane towards Loughton as running over capacity, so at busy times we often stay on the A113 High Road instead.

Junction 5 at Loughton only lets traffic leave northbound and join southbound. For a Stansted flight we join the M11 at another junction, and the fixed price stays the same whatever the route.
