Our service in Hampstead Garden Suburb
Henrietta Barnett set up the Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust in 1906, with Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin drawing the plan and Edwin Lutyens laying out Central Square. The Trust still approves changes to houses and gardens, which is why the suburb looks so complete. On its southern edge The Bishops Avenue, often called Billionaires' Row, runs down from Kenwood towards East Finchley, with large houses on plots of two to three acres and Winnington Road alongside. We cover airport runs, school days and dinners in town.
The A1 runs along Lyttelton Road between the suburb and East Finchley and carries on to Henlys Corner, our usual way onto the North Circular for Heathrow; Luton is reached by the M1. Golders Green and East Finchley tube stations sit on either side of the suburb, but with luggage most people prefer to leave from the door. At the top of The Bishops Avenue, the road past the Spaniards Inn narrows to a single lane between the inn and its old tollhouse, a pinch point we plan around.
Central Square is the centre of the suburb's calendar. Each summer Proms at St Jude's fills St Jude on the Hill with evening concerts, and the Henrietta Barnett School on the same square hosts the festival's literary weekend. Hampstead Golf Club, founded in 1893, has its clubhouse on Winnington Road, and members book cars for early tee times and lunches after a round. The Spaniards Inn, just above The Bishops Avenue, has a large garden used for weddings and summer parties.

A charity music and literary festival around Central Square; evening concerts start at 7.30pm, so book your return car with the outward one and the chauffeur will be waiting as people leave.
On the road
- Spaniards Road drops to a single lane between the Spaniards Inn and the old tollhouse opposite, so at busy times we allow for a queue at the top of The Bishops Avenue or approach from the A1 side instead.
- The A1 runs along Lyttelton Road between the suburb and East Finchley and continues to Henlys Corner, which gives a direct route onto the North Circular for Heathrow.
