Our service in The Chalfonts

The Chalfonts are a group of villages along the River Misbourne on the edge of the Chilterns, and each has its own character. Chalfont St Giles keeps its green, its duck pond and a Norman church, and John Milton finished Paradise Lost in the cottage on Deanway after leaving London during the plague of 1665. Chalfont St Peter is the larger village, home to the girls' prep at Maltman's Green and to Chalfonts Community College. Jordans grew up around a Quaker meeting house of 1688, and Seer Green lies beside it on the railway. We drive residents of all four with our own TfL-licensed chauffeurs.

The A413 is the spine of the area, running through Chalfont St Peter and Chalfont St Giles between Amersham and Denham, where it meets the A40. Which station suits you depends on the village. Gerrards Cross and Seer Green and Jordans are on the Chiltern line to Marylebone, while Chalfont and Latimer in Little Chalfont adds the Metropolitan line. Heathrow is the nearest major airport. For every arrival we follow the flight, stand in the hall with a name board and give the first 60 minutes after landing free, parking included.

Occasions here are often local and steeped in history. Milton's Cottage opens to visitors in season, the Chiltern Open Air Museum at Newland Park takes weddings and filming among its rescued buildings, and the burial ground at Jordans draws visitors to the grave of William Penn. Golfers play at Harewood Downs on Cokes Lane and at Beaconsfield Golf Club, whose course gave Seer Green's station its first name, Beaconsfield Golf Links. For an evening in London or a wedding elsewhere in the Chilterns, the chauffeur stays with the car and drives you home at the end.

Notable places in The Chalfonts

  • Landmark

    Milton's Cottage

Independent museum at 21 Deanway, Chalfont St Giles (HP8 4JH), in the cottage where John Milton completed Paradise Lost; check the opening days before you travel.

  • Venue

    Chiltern Open Air Museum

At Newland Park on Gorelands Lane (HP8 4AB); look for the green Newland Park boarding at the drive, and the museum is on the left a short way down it.

  • Landmark

    Jordans Quaker Meeting House

Built in 1688 on Welders Lane, Jordans (HP9 2SN), with William Penn buried in front of it; the old meeting room can be reached step-free from the car park.

  • Golf

    Harewood Downs Golf Club

Members' club on Cokes Lane, Chalfont St Giles (HP8 4TA), incorporated in 1919; we set you down at the clubhouse and come back when the round is over.

  • Golf

    Beaconsfield Golf Club

Despite its name, the club is at Seer Green (HP9 2UR) beside the station; visitors play on weekdays, and at weekends as the guest of a member.

  • School

    Maltman's Green School

Independent prep for girls aged 2 to 11 on Maltmans Lane, Chalfont St Peter (SL9 8RR), with its own indoor swimming pool.

  • Station

    Chalfont and Latimer station

In Little Chalfont, served by Metropolitan line trains into central London and by Chiltern Railways trains to Marylebone.

Local knowledge

On the road

  • The Chiltern Open Air Museum sends coaches up Gravel Hill and Rickmansworth Lane from the A413 at Chalfont St Peter because the lane from Maple Cross is very narrow, and we take the same approach with a V-Class.
  • Most traffic through the villages runs on the A413, so for Heathrow and London we choose between the A40 at Denham and the M25 at junction 17 according to the time of day.

Questions about The Chalfonts

Which station should I use from the Chalfonts?

It depends on the village. Chalfont St Peter is closest to Gerrards Cross, Jordans and Seer Green share Seer Green and Jordans, and Chalfont and Latimer also has the Metropolitan line. We meet trains at any of them.

Can you take visitors to William Penn's grave at Jordans?

Yes. The meeting house is on Welders Lane, and the chauffeur waits while you see the burial ground and the 1688 meeting room, then takes you on to Milton's Cottage or back to London.

Can you bring wedding guests to the Chiltern Open Air Museum?

Yes. A V-Class shuttle suits guests staying nearby, and we enter by the Newland Park drive on Gorelands Lane rather than the narrow lane from Maple Cross.

Do you cover the school run to Maltman's Green?

Yes. The school is on Maltmans Lane in Chalfont St Peter, and we can set up regular morning and afternoon runs with a child seat fitted free for younger girls.

Will you collect me from Heathrow and bring me home to Chalfont St Giles?

Yes. Your chauffeur follows the flight, so a delay is covered, and waits in arrivals holding your name. The first 60 minutes after landing cost nothing, airport parking included.
