Our service in Windsor

Windsor is a royal town first: the castle stands above the High Street, Home Park lies alongside it, and both the Garter procession and the Royal Windsor Horse Show take place within the castle grounds. That makes it a favourite day out for overseas visitors staying in London, alongside residents and local businesses who need dependable Heathrow runs. We collect guests from hotels such as the Sir Christopher Wren on Thames Street and the Castle Hotel on the High Street.

The A332 links Windsor to Junction 6 of the M4 to the north and runs south past Ascot towards the M3, while the A308 heads east to the M25 at Junction 13. Heathrow is by far the closest airport. The town has two stations: Windsor & Eton Central, with a shuttle to Slough for Paddington and Reading, and Windsor & Eton Riverside, with direct trains to Waterloo. Windsor Bridge has been closed to motor traffic since 1970, so a car to Eton goes round by road rather than straight across.

Mid May brings the Royal Windsor Horse Show, the one time each year the castle's private grounds open to the public, and Garter Day follows on the Monday of Royal Ascot week in June. Royal Windsor Racecourse, out on the Maidenhead Road, is known for its Monday Night Racing and summer Saturdays, and hosts the Berkshire Winter Million in January. Legoland on the Winkfield Road fills the school holidays with family trips.

Notable places in Windsor

  • Landmark

    Windsor Castle

There is no visitor parking at the castle and the visitor entrance is at the top of Castle Hill, so the chauffeur sets you down in the town centre as close as the streets allow.

  • Racecourse

    Royal Windsor Racecourse

Signposted from Junction 6 of the M4, with free parking on site and SL4 5EZ as the sat nav postcode; if you prefer to arrive by river, French Brothers boats run from Windsor Promenade on race days.

  • Venue

    Legoland Windsor Resort

On the B3022 Winkfield Road (SL4 4AY); some sat navs send drivers into a residential street, so we follow the brown signs, and on leaving we turn right at the Legoland roundabout for the motorways.

  • Hotel

    Sir Christopher Wren Hotel

On Thames Street by the river (SL4 1PX), round the corner from the castle and the town centre; the chauffeur collects from the hotel entrance.

  • Hotel

    Castle Hotel Windsor

At 18 High Street (SL4 1LJ), close to the castle; tell us your room name or booking reference and the chauffeur will ask for you at reception.

  • Station

    Windsor & Eton Riverside station

Direct South Western Railway trains from London Waterloo; it is also the nearest station to the Horse Show entrance.

Events in the diary

  • Royal Windsor Horse ShowMid May

    Private grounds of Windsor Castle

Parking is limited and booked in advance, and drivers from the south and west are asked to use the M3 at Junction 3 rather than the M4 to keep out of the town centre.

  • Garter DayJune, Monday of Royal Ascot week

    Windsor Castle

Public tickets to watch the procession to St George's Chapel are by application early in the year, so book your car once your tickets are confirmed.

  • Berkshire Winter MillionJanuary

    Royal Windsor Racecourse

A multi-day winter meeting; the racecourse has free parking, and the chauffeur can wait or come back for the last race.

On the road

  • On Horse Show days the organisers route traffic via Datchet and Windsor Great Park and ask drivers from the south and west to use the M3 rather than the M4, and we plan our routes to match.
  • Winkfield Road and Imperial Road are the busiest approaches to Legoland at peak times, so in school holidays we avoid them when the journey allows.

Questions about Windsor

Where will the car drop me for Windsor Castle?

There is no visitor parking at the castle, so the chauffeur sets you down in the town centre near Castle Hill, where the visitor entrance is, and collects you from an agreed spot afterwards.

Can you take me to the Royal Windsor Horse Show?

Yes. Show traffic follows designated routes, so we agree a drop-off and collection point with you in advance and plan the drive around the organisers' advice.

Can I arrive at Royal Windsor Racecourse by river?

Yes. We can drop you on Windsor Promenade for the French Brothers boat, which starts running two hours before the first race, and collect you from the racecourse afterwards.

Can you meet me at Heathrow and drive me to a Windsor hotel?

Yes. Your flight is tracked, the chauffeur holds a name board in the arrivals hall, and there is no charge for the first hour after touchdown, airport parking included. From there it is straight to your hotel door.
